Reiki, pronounced 'ray-key', is a system of energy healing originating from Japan. The word Reiki means universal life energy and is based on the belief that life energy flows through all living things. When this energy becomes disrupted or blocked, it is believed that stress and disease follow. Reiki practitioners use the universal life energy they have been attuned to, to promote natural healing.
Reiki can increase the supply of life energy and return the body to a state of balance. It may also help to relieve pain and reduce tension and anxiety. Reiki can be used in any situation where there is a desire for, and openness to, healing.
A Typical Session
After discussing your medical history and expectations, you will be asked to either sit or lie down. You will not need to remove any clothing. A Reiki treatment consists of laying the hands on or above the body in a prescribed pattern and allowing the energy of life to flow through the hands to the person being treated. Sometimes people feel warmth or a tingling sensation, others feel nothing. However, everyone agrees they feel relaxed and calm, with a general feeling of wellbeing after the treatment. A typical session lasts for 45 minutes.
